Acrostic Poems
At school, as a regular part of the curriculum each year, our children have to write acrostic poetry. How long is it since you wrote an acrostic poem?
An acrostic poem is one where the first (or last) letter of each line spells out a word. That word is the theme of the poem.
Doesn’t that sound easy? Actually, unless you have done them regularly, it is not easy at all.
Here is an example of an acrostic poem written by a 8 year old.
Hail is very strong
A piece of hail can be as big as a tennis ball!!!
It can HAILfor a long time!!
Let the hail come down
Australia doesn’t have much hail!
No don’t go outside!!!
Do you like rain?
Rest in bed
Ahh it’s raining!!
It can RAIN for a long time!
No I don’t like rain!!

Isn’t that clever? Now lets see you do one. Let’s keep it simple. I want to see an acrostic poem written by you and submitted here in the comments section. The topic is: POEM
