Saturated Fats and Alzheimer’s.
We have always known that fats, especially saturated fat, is bad for our bodies. Australian scientists have now discovered that it is bad for our brains,
Alzheimer’s patients show a high level of amyloid in their brains. Amyloid is a protein that is made in the intestines. When it travels to the brain it has the capacity to damage and even kill off the barrier that protects brain cells.
The ABC News explains: “The brain has millions of blood vessels. Each vessel has a lining that is very selective about what is allowed to go in and out, and this keeps the brain in good health.”
Professor Mamo and colleagues found this lining, called the blood-brain-barrier, is damaged by high saturated fat diets.
“This allows things to be getting in there that shouldn’t be,” he said.”
If you haven’t been watching your diet you now have another reason to do so. Eliminating saturated fats will help you to lose weight, lower your cholesterol and also help protect your brain cells.
What other reason do you need?
