Your ossicles are three tiny bones found in your middle ear. In fact, they are the smallest bones in the human body.

They are also referred to by their (Latin) names of malleus, incus and stapes.

The ossicle bones received these names because of their shapes. They are also referred to as the hammer, anvil and stirrup.

The TALUS is the scientific name for the ankle bone.

The PATELLA is the scientific name for the knee cap bone.

The CLAVICLE is the scientific name for the collar bone.

The CRANIUM is the scientific name for the skull bone, and

the SCAPULA is the scientific name for the shoulder bone.

The majority of people love their family pets and going for a visit to a zoo or farm. However, there are some people who are frightened of animal and birds. The general term for a fear of animals is zoophobia, and a fear of birds is ornithophobia.

Once again this is quite broad, as number of animals have their own phobia terms. I thought this was a good opportunity to include some more words in our phobia segment:

Ailurophobia is a fear of cats.
Cynophobia is a fear of dogs.
Alektorophobia is a fear of chickens.
Ichthypohobia is a fear of fish.
