Codeword puzzles a are great fun. They can be quite a challenge. They require you to use your logic skills as well as your knowledge of the English to work out the patterns in the numbering. A little educated work is often helpful as well.
Each letter is represented by a number (eg. A might be 17 and P might be 3), and all letters of the alphabet have been included.
You are given a number of letters to start you off (it's sometimes only one. and it is up to you to decipher the rest.
Here are some tips that may help you along the way. Of course it all depends on the codeword setter and the difficulty of the puzzle.
- A number that appears most often will more than likely be an E or an A.
- Two of the same number together can be EE, BB DD FF GG LL NN OO PP RR TT.
- The letter S will often appear at the end of a word.
- The letter Q is often used only once and if it has been used to make two words can only be followed by a U.
